Electrical Testing & EICRs: electrical equipment and assessment
NEXT STEP

What this means for your property

Coordinate tenant access, clear safe working space around the board and share previous reports. Tell occupants about possible interruption to power.

What an assessment can establish

An EICR records the condition of an existing fixed electrical installation within the agreed inspection scope. It is different from a certificate for new work. Access, limitations and existing records affect what can be inspected; observations should be explained with the recommended next action.

When the issue needs assessment, our electrical testing & eicrs page describes the scope and preparation for that work.

Information to have ready

Provide the previous EICR, installation certificates, tenant contact and any known fault history.

Apply this guidance to the next step

Use the appointment process to agree access and the purpose of the visit. For another question about the same system, read What Does an EICR Check?.

Do not remove covers or touch exposed electrical parts. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger to life, move away and contact the appropriate emergency service.

Further information

General guidance cannot establish the condition of your installation. Arrange an appropriate assessment before deciding on work.
