Lighting, Sockets & Power: electrical equipment and assessment
NEXT STEP

What this means for your property

List the tools or fixed equipment and their positions. Clarify excavation, cable protection and reinstatement responsibilities.

What an assessment can establish

More sockets or a different light fitting can improve a room, but the existing circuit and intended load still determine the work. Planning positions before installation avoids switches hidden behind doors, inaccessible appliance connections and controls that do not suit the chosen lighting.

When the issue needs assessment, our lighting, sockets & power page describes the scope and preparation for that work.

Information to have ready

Send room photographs and a list of fittings or appliances, including model numbers if already selected.

Apply this guidance to the next step

Use the appointment process to agree access and the purpose of the visit. For another question about the same system, read Planning an LED Lighting Upgrade.

Do not remove covers or touch exposed electrical parts. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger to life, move away and contact the appropriate emergency service.

Further information

General guidance cannot establish the condition of your installation. Arrange an appropriate assessment before deciding on work.
