House Rewiring: electrical equipment and assessment
NEXT STEP

What this means for your property

Provide a room plan and appliance list. Ask whether plastering, decorating, moving furniture and temporary arrangements are included.

What an assessment can establish

A rewire changes how the property is supplied, so room layouts, appliance positions and future use matter as much as the existing cables. Full and partial rewires need a defined boundary. The survey should establish what can remain, how routes will be accessed and how the installation will be tested at completion.

When the issue needs assessment, our house rewiring page describes the scope and preparation for that work.

Information to have ready

Send a floor plan, renovation schedule and proposed kitchen or bathroom layout before the survey.

Apply this guidance to the next step

Use the appointment process to agree access and the purpose of the visit. For another question about the same system, read Signs That a Property May Need Rewiring.

Do not remove covers or touch exposed electrical parts. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger to life, move away and contact the appropriate emergency service.

Further information

General guidance cannot establish the condition of your installation. Arrange an appropriate assessment before deciding on work.
